Welcome to Hickory Ridge Farms
Braymer, Missouri
|
Paco-vicuñas that once ranged in the Chilean Andes Mountains are very much at home at Hickory Ridge Farms. These animals are both majestic and unique in appearance and personality. Every one of our animals are called by name as we recognize what makes each one special. Athena, Metis and Lacerta all have claimed their own hay feeder for their throne. Alana and Autumn always have a kiss to share. Adaline's sweet personality makes our day brighter. The bliss of burying our hands into Mercy and Thunder's fleeces is always a treat. All have funny little quirks and big beautiful eyes. Our paco-vicuñas have stolen our hearts as our lives have been enriched by this new and exciting adventure we have begun. With the addition of two junior herdsires and twenty three crias in 2011, our herd numbers ninety. We are expecting five spring crias and twenty three fall crias in 2012.

The opportunity to be part of a close-nit group as we grow the paco-vicuña breed across North America is rewarding. Each of these animals is registered with the Paco-Vicuña Registry following strict standards and guidelines. The Paco-Vicuña Association has been organized to help us as we move into the future.
These animals produce some of the finest fiber in the world. It is like touching a cloud, as many spinners describe it. Only a limited supply of this fiber is available since there are just over 400 of these animals in the United States. As always, it was exciting to get our micron tests back this spring. Promise had a beautiful 15.4 micron fleece that had a 4 inch staple length. People from as far away as Europe and Australia are starting to get their hands on the wonderful paco-vicuna roving and yarn. The knitter, spinner and felter are all excited about this new and upcoming luxury fiber. |
